Green 753+
The Green 753 and the Green 753+ are two closely related laptops that share the same plastic case and most other parts. Note: The 753 has the same plastic, but the LCD and motherboards are not interchangeable between 753 and the 753 Plus machines. The power adaptors are also different and can be a quick way to determine which model a laptop is, if there's not a maker's label on the bottom of the laptop. The 753 power adaptor connector has four pins and the 753+ connector has a coaxial connector.
Some Green 753+ where built with a noisy CPU fan and some are equipped with a heat pipe cooler. A few more even had a motherboard mounted fan. The heatpipe version should have better battery life and surely is much quieter than the other machines. All 753+ can be converted to the heatpipe cooler plate.
Overall, the 753+ closely matches the Chicony MP975 laptops, but the 753+ includes the floppy and CD both inside the base unit. So it's a nice complete machine. While there's no USB port, all other expected ports including an Ir comm port are available. Plus there's a TV out port. That I've not yet used myself.
LCD's were 12.1" only in size (I believe - maybe some had 11.3" LCD's) and came in both dual scan and TFT (active matrix) versions.
The max. memory is 80 MB of 72 pin EDO SO-DIMM, as used in the Chicony MP975's. The max. CPU speed is 233 MHz and is limited to Intel only Socket 5 or Socket 7 CPU's. No AMD CPU's are supported the Intel Tillamook CPU's is also not supported. The lowest Vcc is 2.5 volts which is too high for most AMD CPU's.
The 753+ has a very nice BIOS that allows much more customization of boot device and other features not found in the Chicony MP975. I believe many of the earlier versions may need a BIOS update to properly display the 233 MHz CPU speed on the POST screen.
Batteries for these machines are VERY hard to find, so DO NOT throw away your old batteries, have them rebuilt.
