Green 795

The Green 795 and it's near twin, the Green 797, share many features and drive components. The largest difference is the type of CPU that each uses. The Green 795 uses AMD Socket 7 CPU's and the Green 797 uses Intel Socket 370 CPU's.

I believe that in all other respects these two laptops are the same as far major components and use the video and sound components. Therefore they should share device drivers.

The Green 795/797 also are related to the Micron Trek II, but very little in parts will swap between these models. The Trek2 has just about every major component modified when compared to the Green 795/Green 797 and should not be used as a parts machine.

However, the keyboards can be exchanged.

So far I've not owned a completely intact and working Green 795 and so my experiences are very limited. I did attempt to assemble one out of parts from two "parts" Green 795's and the LCD from a Micron Trek 2 laptop, but without success. The Trek2 14.1" LCD's appear to not be compatible with the Green 795.

Memory Limitations

The Green 795 can use two 128MB SDRAM memory modules. I have not been able to make 256 MB modules work.

CPU Information

Per the factory spec sheet (see below) the main bus speed for the Green 795 can beset for 66MHz or 100 MHz. I believe that if the BIOS doesn't limit the speed of the CPU that will POST then it might be possible to run a AMD K6-2 CPU at 600 MHz in these machines. This older generation K6-2 may be limited to 550 MHz due to multiplier settings in many of the faster versions of these processors and do beware of over-heating problems if you attempt to overclock!

At this time I don't know if the Green 795 will support the K6-2+/K76-3+ CPU's.
