Common Green 753 Failures

1) The Green 753 and Green 753+ both have a problem with the keyboard connector failing if the locking bar is not treated with care.

Do not pull the keyboard cable free by just pulling hard on the ribbon. Remove the cooler plate that's under the keyboard (two screws) and locate the motherboard connector for the keyboard. Gently lift the locking bar on the connector and then GENTLY pull the cable free.

If you break the locking bar, a new bar is NOT available at this time. Use some hot glue to glue the bar back into place, but don't get the glue down inside the connector.

2) New batteries are very hard to find - don't throw away you old battery since it can be rebuilt.

3) The hinge covers are held in place with some tiny plastic "ears" on the upper case. These break off the upper case and the hinge cover is often lost. If you use hot glue to hold the covers in place make sure that you can remove the covers later - so many other repairs require the hinges to come off.

4) The LCD lid latch breaks. I have replacements for the plastic latch.

5) The battery box door latch breaks. I do not have replacements for the latch at this time.

6) The CPU socket can open up and the machine will appear to be dead. Check this before anything else if your machine dies.

7) The Green 753+ has a major problem with system clock failure to maintain the correct time. This is normally not the CMOS battery going bad. The problem is that the system clock's master crystal that's used to control the clock has gone bad. Replacement of this crystal is nearly impossible to do without damaging the motherboard.
