753 & 753+ Disassembly
Memory Installation
1) To add memory, turn laptop upside down and remove the square panel that is held in place by one screw. Two 72 pin memory slots will be revealed. Memory must be installed in pairs and of the same memory size. EDO modules for Green 753+ and Fast Page modules for 753.
Disassembly of 753 or 753+
Always remove the main battery and AC power adapter plug before starting to disassembling these machines.
Try to make a list of which screw goes where or stick them on tape as you remove them - replace in reverse order later.
1) Remove keyboard. Slide the two retainers located in the main case just behind the keyboard. The rear side of the keyboard will now lift up. Do so. Rotate the keyboard slightly without pulling on the keyboard ribbon cable. Hold the keyboard with one have and remove the two black screws in the metal CPU cooler plate located under the keyboard. One screw is near the front edge and the other is near the rear edge. Remove the metal place. Gently lift up on both sides of the cable retainer portion of the motherboard keyboard ribbon cable connector. The retainer is very fragile and replacements are nearly impossible to find. Do not throw the retainer away if you do break it - you will need to glue it into place later.
2) remove the one black screw near the front center of the area exposed under the CPU cooler plate. There will be a black wire with connector under the head of this screw. Lift the CD-ROM connector out of the motherboard connector and slide the CD-ROM drive out of the laptop. Close the LCD lid.
3) Turn the laptop over and remove the two LCD lid screws - one in each of the rear corners of the bottom case. Remove the three recessed screws in the bottom case. Do not remove the remaining one screw that holds the large removable panel to the bottom case.
4) Turn the laptop so that you can open the rear connector cover and remove the one short black screw near center top of the connector area.
5) Flip back up and open the LCD lid again. Remove the two hinge covers by pulling outwards in the plane of the LCD panel. (East and West as if you are facing north) If the small retainers in the upper case break then be aware that half of the new units that I have also have broken retainers. GVC used glue to hold most of these hinge covers in place. Remove the black screw (per side) that is under the hinge cover.
6) Gently push the rear of the status LCD cover up and forward (towards you) until the rear is free. DO not lift the front side at this time!!!!
7) Press down on the front edge of the status LCD cover and push it forward at the same time. There are two retainers that WILL break off if you attempt to lift the front side before clearing the case. You may need to use a little force to clear the case before lifting the cover up. Disconnect the status LCD ribbon cable from the connector and lift the cover and status LCD free.
