Note: The LG LP121S1 & LP121S2 LCD's are both 3 volt panels and should be set for 3 volts in some cases. If the LCD doesn't work correctly, look for a V.T. boards that needs 5 volts, they will have a sticker that states "5 volts". Else set these LCD's to operate with 3 volts.

Five volt V.T. Boards have a small 3.3 volt regulator and it needs to be supplied with 5 volts to allow the regulator to function correctly. This factory modification adding the regulator can be seen on the top side of the V.T. board near the left side of the small status LCD. The regulator looks like a three lead transistor.

 MP-979 BIOS Files

Before downloading any BIOS file, please make sure you know the type of CPU you are using and the mainboard version. In most cases a MP979 will have an Intel PII or Celeron MMC1 module and the files below are for those laptops. Do not use these files for MP979's wit the AMD CPU conversion adapter.

The motherboard revision label is most often found on the connector for the internal modem and should not be confused with the label on the hard drive connector. The label on the hard drive connector identifies the charger board revision.

Flashing wrong BIOS file may cause the system not to BOOT and will require you to purchase a correctly reflashed BIOS chip. These BIOS files are provided without any support and are to be downloaded on a use at your own risk basis. DO NOT download if you do not agree with these terms.

1.23D for Revision D motherboard only.
1.25EN for Revision E motherboard or above.
1.32EPN for Revision F motherboards

NOTE: The use of BIOS 1.32EPN BIOS will require a complete reformat of your hard drive and total loss of all stored data that you haven't backup up to an external storage device.

The above files are the latest (last) released revision Chicony MP979 BIOS files for PII/Celeron CPU's

(Not for use with AMD CPU's with MMC1/Socket 7 adapter board):

Brief How To on how to update the MP979 BIOS

Make sure the AC adapter is plug in, fully charged battery installed, and then boot from a DOS system disk that does not have memory manager running (basic DOS without any memory manager loaded)
After DOS is running, insert the floppy disk with all PHLASH and BIOS files
DO NOT attempt to run PHLASH from your hard drive or any other drive
Run PHLASH and follow the prompts - do not stop flash for ANY reason and wait at least a minute after you think the program has finished or you may terminate the program early -- with dire results!
The system should shutdown when completed - enter CMOS setup and reload system default setup
Save and exit from CMOS setup of the BIOS
If using the 1.32EPN BIOS you will need to use Fdisk and Format programs before loading a new operating system. You will NOT be able to boot to old OS after flashing to 1.32EPN!

Any problems with the above operation can cause the laptop to fail to boot and will require repair work - so don't flash a BIOS unless you are fixing a KNOWN problem. Don't update just to update!
