MP982

Systemax (Tiger Direct), Maxtech and Keynote appear to have been the resellers of theses machines in the USA and Canada.  Keynote has a MP982 manual on their web site and that includes the CPU settings. Systemax has the drivers for the MP982 on their website.

Note: These machines will NOT support the AMD K6-2+ or K6-3+ CPU's. Too bad, because they have a 100 MHz motherboard main bus speed.

Running the Sandra test program reveals that the MP982 motherboard chip set is from Acer and the BIOS was written by Acer also.

Chicony MP982

MP982 strongest selling point is that it's using very high-end CPU's from AMD on a 100MHz bus.

To make the MP982 as light and slim as possible the CD-ROM is exchangeable with the FDD. The SmartBay also supports LS-120 and ZIP drive for large capacity data.

CPU:
The CPU is easily mounted on a standard desktop Socket-7. Here you can put the AMD K6-2 up to 450MHz speed. To further increase the 3D performance the K6-2 supports 3DNow! instructions.

(Note: I think that a 550 MhZ CPU should run - but I've not tested this)

Memory:

There are two memory sockets, both supports PC-100 SO-DIMM memory modules for highest speed. The maximum amount of memory is a whopping 256MB.

SmartBay:
There are five different devices in the SmartBay, these devices are easily exchangeable:
FDD 1.44MB
LS-120 120MB
ZIP 100MB
CD-ROM 680MB read-only
DVD-ROM 4.7G read-only
